Goth is a music-based subculture that began in the United Kingdom during the early 1980s. It was developed by fans of Gothic rock, an offshoot of the post-punk music genre. The name Goth was derived directly from the genre. Different types of punk can absolutely be a mindset in addition to the music. The problem is the word mindset is misleading here. People may be inclined to interpret it as an ideology when really its more like an attitude. Case in point: Look at what happened to the skinheads.
